Culture is what binds us. Whether it is an organisation, a country or our local football club – our shared attitudes and behaviours that are the result of being in a particular group that identifies us and helps us find common ground.
However, being part of a culture doesn’t mean that we are all the same. There are English people who prefer baseball to rugby, Italians who would rather eat a delicious curry than a hot stone pizza, and even a Frenchman or two who knows nothing about fashion and philosophy.
And so it is with companies. When we talk about company culture we are talking about shared values and beliefs, which is undeniably very important to understand. Company culture has a powerful impact on individual behaviours. However, this does not mean that every person feels and acts in exactly the same way. There will almost always be a level of variation, and possibly quite notable outliers (something we like to call ‘cultural hotspots’).
Finding your cultural hotspots
Our culture assessment looks firstly at patterns and trends across an organisation – of course these can be filtered by sub-group, and compared and benchmarked, but the focus of the first level of analysis is at a group level.
What we have now added though, as a means of slicing through the data and finding those small and potentially unknown pockets of excellence or risk, is a cultural hotspot tool.
With two clicks, you will now be able to see the highest and lowest scoring combinations across all sub-groups combined, which will in turn allow you to immediately focus on the most pressing issues at hand.
In short, it is a quick and easy way to see the trends and patterns of your outliers – whether they are good or bad, and we believe it will be a very useful and popular tool going forward.
Our program members can now watch a “How To” webinar on our LinkedIn Group.
